Stella Harpole, affectionately known as Nonnie, passed away on August 19, 2024 in Batesville, Mississippi, surrounded by her beloved family after a brief illness. Born on December 1, 1944, in Dubbs, Mississippi Stella led a life that mirrored her loving spirit—a true testament to the warmth and affection she shared with those around her.
Stella’s career as a sales clerk at various stores showcased her dedication and tenacity. However, it was in her role as a mother and grandmother that she found her greatest pride and joy. A devoted wife to her husband, John Harpole, with whom she would have celebrated her 63rd anniversary with on October 13th, Stella exemplified the essence of family life. Together, they built a legacy of love that extended to their three children: John Keith Harpole (Kathy), James Edward Harpole (Amanda), and Melinda Carol Kilpatrick (Kevin). She strongly believed that family gatherings, especially during the holidays, were moments to be cherished, and these occasions were made all the more special by her infectious laughter and warmth.
Her legacy does not end with her children; Stella is also a cherished grandmother to Erin Bufkin (Brett), Zachary Harpole, Hannah Alley (Brent), Wes Mims, Will Mims, and Kaylan Dickey (Matt), and a grandmother to nine great-grandchildren. Each child carried a piece of Nonnie's heart, and she reveled in the joy their presence brought to her life.
Stella's love for animals and nature was evident in her hobbies and interests, which included tending to her flowers and spending time with her pets. An avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, she delighted in the challenge and engagement they provided. Her personality was characterized by an overall loving nature, making her a cherished friend and confidante to many. Stella served in the Air Force Reserves for five years, showcasing her commitment to her country alongside her love for her family.
She is also survived by her dear sister, Thelma Hendrix, who shared in the laughter and memories that filled their lives. Stella was preceded in death by her parents, James and Janie (McCraney) Ward, and her brother, Bill Ward.
Stella Harpole's life was filled with the love of family, the affection of friends, and a passion for making others feel special. Her ability to bring people together, her enduring kindness, and her fierce devotion to her loved ones will forever be remembered.
