Sherley Ann Courtney, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, in Senatobia, MS. Born on September 19, 1941, in Crowder, MS, Sherley was a beacon of generosity and warmth throughout her life.

For 30 years, Sherley dedicated herself to her career at Sears, where she was known not only for her hard work but also for her lively spirit and engaging sense of humor. Beyond her professional life, Sherley was an excellent cook whose delicious meals often filled her home with the comforting scent of holiday feasts. Her family will forever cherish the memories of gathering around her table, sharing laughter and creating lasting bonds.

Sherley’s loyal and supportive nature made her a pillar of strength for her family. She had an innate ability to lift others up, always prioritizing their needs over her own. Her love for family was profound; she found her greatest joy in celebrating milestones with her daughter Tanya Musselwhite (Allen), her five cherished grandchildren—Courtney Crawford (Max), Calli Pinkerton (Zach), Jamie Claire Smith (Wesley), Kenlea Paige Barnes, and Dalton Barnes—and her three great-grandchildren, Will Pinkerton, Harper Lane Pinkerton, and Ella Smith. Sherley’s proudest accomplishments were her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she took immense pride in her family’s achievements.

She has rejoined her husband of 41 years, Charles Rosson "Ross" Courtney, as well as with her daughter Lea Barnes and brother Floyd Phillips, her parents, John D. and Cathline (Palmer) Phillips.  Memories of Sherley will continue to bring joy to the lives of those who loved her.

Sherley also shared many happy moments with her sisters, Mary Lee Ervin and Bobbie Jean Phillips, who will carry her memory with them always. In her downtime, Sherley enjoyed watching Fox News and indulging in classic television shows such as Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Andy Griffith.

A graveside service to honor Sherley’s life will be held on December 23, 2024, at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Southaven, MS, beginning at 3:30 PM. Those who were blessed to know her are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the remarkable life of this truly extraordinary woman.
