Sarah Kathleen Martin, affectionately known by friends and family as “Kitty,” passed away peacefully on April 22

nd

, 2018 at Baptist Desoto Hospital at the age of seventy-one.

Kitty was born January 16

, 1947 as Sarah Kathleen Lloyd in Memphis, TN at Saint Joseph Hospital and is predeceased by her parents Bill and Sarah Burchfield. She had a large family and is survived by her husband Gary “Pepper” Martin of thirty-two years and two brothers John W. Dabbs. Sr. and David C. Burchfield. Additionally, she is survived by three loving daughters: Sarah Catherine Cain- husband David Cain, Julie Annette Farris- husband Gary Farris, Susan Jane Elliott; and nine grandchildren: Tayler Marsh, Kimberly Kilzi, Terri Thomasson, Pete Farris, Phillips Elliott, Cordell Cain, Laura Elliott, Sam Farris, and Ivy Cain. Kitty also had nine great-grandchildren and a host of in-laws and extended family.

With wit and humor, Kitty lived a full and varied life. Her career included bookkeeping for Spiegel Catalog, Havertys Furniture, and Ted Watson. She was an active member of Elks Lodge and enjoyed being involved in their many charitable activities.

Kitty was an avid reader all her life and you could never find her without a book or her beloved Kindle in hand. She also adored the outdoors and enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, riding four-wheelers, and wine floats down the South Fork River. She had a soft spot for animals, including her beloved dog Max and cat Buddy and loved watching the hummingbirds and dragonflies that darted around her house on bright days.

The family will hold a private ceremony to celebrate her life. If you would like to honor her memory, the family requests that donations be made to the Elks National Foundation, Elks Lodge #2539 in the name of Kitty Martin, Member #2024.
