It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Gene Kattawar, Sr., affectionately known as Ron, who departed this world on September 22, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family in Southaven, Mississippi. Born on July 19, 1948, in Greenville, Mississippi, Ron embodied the essence of a devoted family man, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be cherished forever.
A proud graduate of Mississippi Delta Junior College, Ron found his calling in the aviation industry, dedicating over 30 years of his life to Northwest Airlines. His professional journey culminated in his role as a manager, where his passion and commitment to excellence brought him respect and admiration from colleagues and friends alike.
While his career was remarkable, Ron's greatest joy came from being a family man. He cherished every moment spent with his wife, Carol (Cauley) Kattawar, and their children—Ronald Kattawar, Jr. (Lela), Kimberly Mahfouz (Chris), and Jason Kattawar. He paired this devotion with an unwavering love for his five grandchildren, always striving to create a nurturing home that resonated with warmth and laughter. Home meant everything to Ron, and he poured his heart into every endeavor, giving 100% to all he did.
In addition to his family role, Ron was a gifted writer who captured moments and memories through his books, including “A Soul Gone Too Soon” and “Cornbread Memories.” His words touched many, reflecting both his talented spirit and the deep connections he fostered throughout his life.
Ron leaves behind not only his immediate family but also his brothers Jerry Kattawar and Mike Kattawar, and his sister Judy Jones, who will continue to share in the memories and love that he instilled in their lives. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Dolly (Hill) Kattawar, his brother Ted Kattawar, and sister Fran Jolly, who welcomed him with open arms.
The family invites all who knew and loved Ron to celebrate his life during a visitation on September 24, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, followed by a funeral service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. He will then be laid to rest immediately following at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.
