Richard Howard Jones, Jr., affectionately known as "Buddy," passed away on May 17, 2024, in Southaven, MS, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. He was born on December 14, 1942, in Cumberland Furnace, TN, to his parents Richard Howard and Caroline (Gafford) Jones, Sr.
Buddy led a remarkable life filled with dedication and love for his family. After serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam and retiring from the Air National Guard, he pursued a successful career as an IT Specialist for over 30 years. His work ethic and commitment were unwavering, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and friends alike.
While he found fulfillment in his professional endeavors, Buddy's true joy came from the time spent with his loved ones. He cherished every moment fishing and hunting, watching football - his favorite team being the Tennessee Vols, and embarking on retirement road trips with his beloved wife of 57 years, Reba. His fondest memories revolved around these simple yet meaningful experiences that brought him immense happiness.
Described as strong-willed and tough due to his military background, Buddy also possessed a soft-hearted and jovial nature that endeared him to all who knew him. His kind and generous spirit left an indelible mark on those around him, making him not only a pillar of strength but also a source of compassion and love.
In addition to his wife Reba, Richard Howard Jones, Jr. is survived by his son Van Jones (Megan), daughter Tammy Jones, grandchildren Mason, Pryce, and Maguire. His proudest accomplishments in life were his family whom he cherished above all else.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Richard Howard Jones, Jr. will be held on May 24th at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Southaven, MS. The service will begin at 2:00 PM to pay tribute to a remarkable man whose legacy of love and devotion will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Richard's memory will endure through the stories shared by family and friends as they recall his unwavering strength combined with boundless kindness. While he may no longer be physically present among us, his spirit lives on in the lives he touched so deeply.
