Mr. Richard “Dick” Thomas, 78, of Hernando, MS, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at his residence in Hernando. He worked at a salesman for over twenty-five years prior to his retirement. He was an outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. Mr. Thomas enjoying working and tinkering in his shop, as well as tending to his home and yard. He loved his animals and also enjoyed going to the casino and playing the slots. Above all else, he loved people. Mr. Thomas never met a stranger and loved to visit and talk with anyone he came in contact with. As much as he loved everyone, he was especially close with his best friend George Cullars. They were constantly together and were more like family than friends. Mr. Thomas loved to eat, especially anything that George would grill or cook. His favorite foods were seafood and Blue Belle ice cream. He liked to be in charge and more often then not, it was his way or no way. Mr. Thomas was full of life and had a one of kind personality. His memory will continue to live on through the countless memories he shared with family and friends.
Mr. Thomas leaves behind his loving wife of sixteen years, Barbra McIver Thomas of Hernando, MS; two sons, Mark Thomas (Sonia) of Moscow, TN and Lewis Thomas of Kentucky; three daughters, Madalyn Sullins (Pat) of Southaven, MS, Marion Weaver (Kenny) of Southaven, and DeAnna Eben (Richard) of Red Banks, MS; two step-daughters, Hope Ballard (Lloyd) of Southaven and Angela McIver of Tunica, MS; one brother, Wayne Thomas of Cleveland, MS; thirteen grandsons, Patrick Sullins of Memphis, TN, Ricky Weaver (Alyssa) of Olive Branch, MS, Tommy Weaver of Memphis, Kenny Weaver, Jr. of Southaven, Kenny McCalman of Southaven, Kevin McCalman of Southaven, Tyler Billingsley of Tunica, Gage Selby of Southaven, Michah Eben of Southaven, Andrew Eben of Southaven, Lee Marrow of Moscow, Jacob Marrow of Moscow, and Brison Kinsella of Moscow; nine granddaughters, Lauren Sullins of Memphis, Emily Sullins of Southaven, Audrey Williams (Ben) of Olive Branch, Lindsay Stevenson (Ryan) of Australia, Katie Kubler (Josh) of Nesbit, MS, Jessica Joyner (Brian Overall) of Potts Camp, MS, Nikki Glass (Daniel) of Atoka, TN, Hayley Barlow of Southaven, and Melita Rivers of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Bernard N. and Ida Belle Thomas; and brother, John Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations and memorials in honor of Mr. Richard “Dick” Thomas, be made to the Desoto County Humane Society (1251 Humane Way, Nesbit, MS 38651) or to the American Heart Association (5384 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119).
