RALPH HEDGES BLAYLOCK
was born May 7, 1927 in Duck Hill, MS to Hardy Benson Blaylock and Minnie Myrtle (Brown) Blaylock. He graduated Valedictorian from Grenada High School at the age of 16 and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina at the age of 19. He had a competitive nature and excelled both academically and athletically while participating on the University’s swim team. He served in the Navy during World War II and was called back into Active duty for the Korean War. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and was an awarded Marksman. Upon his discharge he took a job as an engineer with International Harvester in Memphis. He married Alma Christene Costilow of Grenada, MS on April 13, 1952. He once said his greatest accomplishment was getting Christene to marry him. They had four children; Yvonne Richardson (Mike), Dan Blaylock (Karen), Lorene Ufferman (Doug), Patricia Langford (Ken); eight grandchildren; Yvette Jackson, Kristen Adams, Brandon Blaylock, James Michael Richardson, Courtney Bowen, Brett Blaylock, Jared Ufferman, Rachel Ufferman and a host of great-grandchildren. He was a devout Christian and dedicated his life to the ministry. He built and pastored the Somerville Church of God, the Church of God at Southaven and the Hernando Church of God. He was a church planter and was instrumental in the establishment of several churches in the north Mississippi area. He was a faithful man and went home to be with the Lord on December 9, 2015 at 88 years old. Visitation will be Saturday, December 12, 2015 from
12:30 p.m.
until the service begins at
2 p.m.
at Colonial Hills Church of God, 2432 Colonial Hills Drive, Southaven, MS. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Church of God Smokey Mountain Home for Children, 449 McCarn Circle, Sevierville, TN 37862. Arrangements are in the care of Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, MS.
