Owen Myron Ashby, age 78, of Southaven, MS, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven after a brief illness.  He was born on October 10, 1945 in Greenwood, MS to the late Owen and Elizabeth (Ware) Ashby.

Owen retired in 2015 from the Horseshoe Casino where he worked in Maintenance and had previously worked as a plant manager at Burgie Industries from 1980 to 1996, and in the 1970’s he also worked at Big Daddy’s Amusement.  He loved bowling and was previously a member of the Memphis Bowling Association.  In 1990 he won the City of Memphis Bowling Tournament and enjoyed winning several 300 score games over the years.  However, on February 22, 2000, he bowled an 800 series at the Billy Hardwicks All Star Lanes scoring 256, 288, and 275 for an 819 series.  Growing up in Greenwood, MS he played baseball and he also played baseball for the Grasshoppers in Memphis as well as other church leagues.  He enjoyed playing fast-pitch baseball, playing short stop, and third base.

In addition to his parents, Owen is preceded in death by his brother, Ben Ashby.

Owen will be remembered by his beloved wife of 17 years, Rhonda Snook Ashby, whom he married on September 1, 2006, his son Michael Jason Ashby (Octavia), brother James Ellis, his beloved cats Ellie, Goldie, Billy, Lucy, Buster, and Robby, nieces Cindy Johnson and Gabrielle Ashby, and nephews Bennie Owen Ashby and Chris Ashby.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
