Oscar Earl Boggs, Jr.

January 13, 1940 — December 20, 2024

Horn Lake, MS

Oscar Earl Boggs, Jr., affectionately known as "Sonny," ran into the loving arms of Jesus on December 20, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Born on January 13, 1940, in Brownsville, TN, Sonny was a vibrant soul whose impact on the lives of those around him was profound and lasting.

For 55 years, he devoted himself to his career as a plumber, not just as a job but as a skill he took pride in mastering. This dedication to his craft was only overshadowed by his greatest accomplishments—becoming a father and grandfather. Sonny was immensely proud of his family, which includes his devoted wife of 34 years, Brenda (Stewart) Boggs, and his beloved children: son Larry Michael Boggs, daughters Rebecca Denise Feathers and Stacie Lynne Martin. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Lauren, Lindsey, Tanner, and Carter, finding joy in every moment spent with them.

Sonny had a warm and sprightly personality; he was well-liked and cultivated friendships wherever he went. His sense of humor and kindness drew people in, making him a beloved figure in his community. Serving as a deacon in his earlier years, he exemplified his faith through service and compassion, passionately participating in church activities and encouraging his family to join him in worship, especially with his daughter Denise.  He was known as "Bowtie Sonny" by his church family at Church Road Baptist Church as he loved to wear bowties.

The love for his family extended beyond immediate relations, as he had a deep-seated care for his sister, Shirley Haynes, whom he looked after until she went home to Jesus. He often reminisced about how much he loved being in the country, reveling in nature and the freedom it afforded him. An avid hunter, he found solace and delight roaming the great outdoors.

Sonny's zest for life was evident in his many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed traveling, particularly to Branson, MO, and relished the thrill of stockcar races, often sharing these experiences with his children. He cherished memories of playing Santa, which became a family tradition that brought joy and laughter to many during the holiday season. His vibrant spirit will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Sonny's earthly journey may have concluded, but his legacy lives on through the countless memories shared, laughter exchanged, and love he imparted to his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Oscar Earl and Rebecca Virginia (Tyus) Boggs, Sr., and his beloved sister, Shirley Haynes.

The community is invited to celebrate Sonny's extraordinary life during a visitation on December 26, 2024, from 10 AM to 11 AM, followed by a heartfelt funeral service at 11 AM, both held at Church Road Baptist Church in Horn Lake, MS. After the services, he will be laid to rest at Lebanon Cemetery in Brownsville, TN, at 2:30 PM, where family and friends can gather to pay their final respects.

Oscar Earl Boggs, Jr. touched many lives, and while he may no longer walk among us, the love and laughter he shared will resonate in our hearts forever.
