Mollie Jewell Martin Carter passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025. She was born in Spring Creek, North Carolina on December 18, 1929 to the late Harry E. and Lillie Mae (Hottell) Martin. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Everyone loved "Miss Mollie", as she came to be known in her later years. She was kind, patient, and loving. Blessed with a zest for life and adventure, she was always up for a cruise or travel of any kind, especially to the beloved Blue Ridge Mountains of her childhood in western North Carolina.
Mollie was a great supporter of her late husband, Rev. Stephen D. Carter. She had a servant's heart, working for years as a well-respected RN, and later volunteering at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Columbus, MS. She was also a longtime member of The Daughters of the King.
She loved to read, grow flowers, crochet, knit, cook, and craft baby quilts for her great-grandchildren. She found great joy in teaching the grands how to cook, sew, and she beat everyone at checkers.
Guided by her devout faith in Christ, she lived by the philosophy, "When the Man upstairs says go, you go," whether that meant moving her family to a new town or when it was her time to leave this earth. She embraced change throughout her life as an opportunity to meet new people.
Mollie will be greatly missed by her children Steve Carter and Sharon Clay (Mark), seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mollie is preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law Cathy Haliburton (Otto) and all eight of her brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy Episcopal Church, 8245 Getwell Road, Southaven, MS 38672 on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 10:00 am with a reception in the library to follow. She will be interred with her husband at Holy Apostle Church in Fort Worth, TX at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Timothy Episcopal Church.
