Michael Richard Myrick Sr., affectionately known as "Santa Mike," passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, at Baptist Desoto Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on January 20, 1953, in Memphis, TN, Michael dedicated an admirable 42 years to his career as a truck driver, earning the distinguished 2 Million Mile Safe Driving Award. His commitment to safety and diligence on the road was a testament to the kind of man he was—dependable, hardworking, and truly devoted to his craft.
For over 22 years, Michael embraced the joyous role of Santa Claus at Springfield Cove in Southaven, MS, bringing boundless happiness and magic to children and families during the holiday season. His heart overflowed with love for people, particularly children, and he found immense joy in witnessing their faces light up with delight. His devotion to spreading joy extended far beyond the holiday season; Michael and his wife Sharon dedicated themselves to ensuring that children received gifts each Christmas, reflecting their selfless commitment to the well-being of others.
At home, Michael was a loving and devoted husband to Sharon Myrick. The safety and happiness he provided made her feel cherished every day. He was not only a wonderful partner but also a devoted father. He shared a deep love for the outdoors with his son, Michael R. Myrick Jr., and cherished every moment spent fishing with his beloved daughter, Katherine, relishing the bond they shared as a “daddy’s girl.” Those sunny days by the water were filled with laughter, conversation, and the simple joy of being together, creating memories that his family will forever treasure.
Michael’s legacy is also carried on by his step-son Daniel Coffman, his seven grandchildren, and his ten great-grandchildren, all who adored him tremendously. Michael had six brothers and one sister. His family knew him as a loving man, whose heart was as vast as the love he gave freely. Michael brought light into every room he entered and had a unique ability to uplift and connect with those around him. His passion for gardening and the interplay with nature, along with his famous saying, "It is always a GOOD DAY TO GO FISHING," showcased his appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
He was a proud alumnus of Central High School, having graduated in 1971, which perhaps laid the foundation for his pursuit of lifelong learning and connection with others. Michael's warmth and compassion extended beyond blood relations; he touched many lives, creating enduring friendships and becoming a larger-than-life figure within his community.
Michael Richard Myrick Sr. will be profoundly missed by his loving family, which includes his dear wife Sharon Myrick, daughter Katherine Myrick, son Michael R. Myrick Jr. (Heather), step-son Daniel Coffman, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his step-son, Michael David Coffman.
