Michael Kenneth Chisamore

October 18, 1969 — March 18, 2025

Southaven

Michael Kenneth Chisamore, left this world on March 18, 2025, at the age of 55, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 18, 1969, in Kingston, NY, Michael was a beacon of light and love, which he spread across his family and community.

Michael's professional journey began with an impressive educational background that included a BPS in Architecture from SUNY at Buffalo and a Master's degree in Architecture from Virginia Tech's Alexandria campus. He stood as a licensed architect and interior designer, recognized by the NCARB and NCIDQ, respectively. For seven years, he taught at Alfred State College before joining the University of Memphis, where he shared his passion for architecture and interior design as a Professor for sixteen years. His intellect and creativity were matched only by his kindness. Throughout his career, he was awarded numerous accolades, but he was proudest of his student's remarkable achievements. His deep love of education extended beyond the classroom. He served as a faculty advisor for UKirk at the U of M. In his church, he also took joy in teaching, fulfilling the role of Sunday School teacher as well as giving his time as a deacon and an elder in the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA).

Michael lived a life rich with personal connections that he cherished. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Katie, who remembers fondly how deeply he listened to her, always infusing warmth and love into every conversation. His children, Nora and Aidan, carry with them many memories, from the long hours of deep and meaningful conversations to the soothing resonance of their father's voice as he read stories aloud, vividly describing every character and scene.

Michael personified patience and kindness, and was known for being the best listener—a quality deeply valued by all who knew him. His creativity flourished in his artwork; although he humbly referred to himself as a sketcher, his family marveled at the masterpieces he could create.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Katie; his children, Nora and Aidan; his mother, Patricia Chisamore of Tillson, NY; his dear sister, Sherry; as well as his sister-in-law, Bonnie Hawkins; his brother-in-law, Tom (Julie) McAuliffe; and his much-loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Chisamore of Tillson, NY, and his brother-in-law, Joel Hawkins.

A memorial service to honor Michael’s life and legacy will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Hernando, MS, on March 22, 2025, commencing at 1:00 PM.

As we remember Michael Kenneth Chisamore, let us hold onto the joys he shared, the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely. His impact will echo through the stories exchanged around dinner tables, through the wisdom imparted to his students, and in the quiet moments when we pause to remember a kind, brilliant soul who brought artistic beauty to every life he encountered.
