Mearl Sitzes, 87, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, was born August 22, 1935, in Gill, Arkansas, and passed away peacefully at his residence at Culpepper Place April 14, 2023. Mr. Sitzes was plant manager at Kimco Auto Parts for over thirty years. He spent much of his spare time taking care of lawns and gardening. Mearl was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life. Everyone loved listening to his hilarious and animated stories. When he was younger, he and his twin brother were members of the Rabbit Ridge Rambler Band. He loved to entertain everyone with his singing and guitar playing. His children and grandchildren fondly remember his guitar playing as their wake up calls to a much too early morning. Many days he could be found in his shop tinkering with whatever he could find. Mearl was a longtime member of Carriage Hills Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by Geraldine Sitzes, his wife of 60 years; his parents, Vester and Erscell Sitzes; his siblings, J.V., Arnold, Dearl Sitzes and Melladeen Simpson; and his son, Scott Sitzes. Mearl is survived by his children, Marsha Reed (Gary) of Olive Branch, MS; Cheryl McLean of Brentwood, TN; Gary Sitzes (Terri) of Southaven, MS; and grandchildren, Allison Moffett of Nesbit, MS; Sean McLean (Samantha) of Arlington, VA; Adam Sitzes (Lyndsey) of Senatobia, MS; Tyler Bland (Aleia) of Coldwater, MS; Weston (Jessica) Sitzes of Olive Branch, MS; Brittany Ashton-Lewis (Monty) of Playa del Rey, CA; and Kayla Brown (Jarred) of Olive Branch, MS; and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Darlene Olive (George) of Bartlett, TN, and Joyce Avery (Spencer) of Germantown, TN. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 11:00am at Twin Oaks Funeral Home with the funeral following at 12:00pm. The family requests that any memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Carriage Hills Baptist Church. The family would also like to share a special thanks to all the staff and caregivers at Culpepper Place of Olive Branch, Mississippi, for their outstanding care over the last 3 years.Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral service at 12:00 pm, Interment will immediately follow.
