Lydia Gloria “Malandra” Pittman

, 88, passed away on September 11, 2016 at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis, Tennessee. She was actively involved for many years at Christ the King

Catholic Church in Southaven. She also enjoyed 8 years at Ave Maria Assisted Living in Bartlett, Tennessee. While at Ave Maria she participated in exercise, Bible study, crafts, Wii Bowling and other games. It was at Ave Maria that she learned to knit, going on to provide hundreds of hats and scarves for her family, friends, and local charities.

Lydia, the youngest of 7, was born in Fall River, MA to Raffaele and Assunta Malandra. She was married to the love of her life, Bill, for 54 years. Lydia is survived by her 3 daughters, Susan (Gary) Knighton of Hartwell, GA, Sharon (Jerry) Yale of Chelsea, AL and Christy (Jim) Bendall of Bartlett, TN; 6 grandsons, Bill Knighton of Hartwell, GA, Jerry Yale (Tara) of Hillsborough, NC, Joshua Yale (Kat) of Leeds, AL, Jonathon Yale (Ashlea) of Helena, AL, James Bendall and Joey Bendall of Bartlett, TN and 6 great-grandchildren, Mary Yale, Elijah Yale, Jemarius Andrews, Chloe Andrews, Ava Yale and Carter Yale. Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, William Clarence Pittman, and grandson, Benjamin Lee Knighton.

Services will be at

10:00 am

on

Saturday, September 17

at Ave Maria Chapel, 2795 Charles Bryan Road, Bartlett, TN with visitation beginning at

9:00 am

. Burial will be

12:30 pm

the same day at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens, 290 Goodman Road, Southaven, MS.  In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in her name to one of our favorite charities: Pilot Club
