Kevin Michael Smith, Sr., known affectionately as "Mike," passed away on May 21, 2024 in his hometown of Memphis, TN, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him. Born on February 27, 1969, in Memphis, Mike began his journey through life with a kind heart and a strong work ethic. As a groundskeeper for the University of Memphis, he poured his dedication into ensuring the beauty and upkeep of the campus he held dear. His commitment to his work was unparalleled, a testament to his unwavering spirit and sense of responsibility.
Despite his tough exterior, Mike had a tender heart that shone through in his actions. He was fiercely protective of his mother, Linda K. (Gaines) Smith, whom he cared for with utmost devotion. His sisters Karen Williams and Kellie Horne held a special place in his heart, with Mike fondly referring to Karen as "Angie" and sharing light-hearted moments with Kellie.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Mike found joy in various hobbies such as fishing, coaching T-ball, working on cars, and tinkering with anything that crossed his path. He was a man of many talents and interests, always willing to lend a helping hand or share a laugh with those around him.
One of Mike proudest accomplishments was becoming a father to his son, Kevin Smith, Jr. His love for his son knew no bounds, and he leaves behind cherished memories that will forever live on in Kevin Jr.'s heart.
Alongside his son and mother, Mike is survived by his nieces Marla Falbo; nephews Devin Williams, Todd Smith, Anthony Falbo; great-nephews Atticus Puckett, Salem Sims; great-niece Scarlett Falbo; brother-in-law Robert Williams, as well as other extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Harold Junior Smith and nephew, Christian Stone Williams.
A graveside service to honor the life of Kevin Michael Smith, Sr. will be held on May 29, 2024 at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Southaven. Though he may no longer walk beside us, Mike's memory will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Rest in peace, Mike. Your kindness and hard work will never be forgotten.
