Jean Hill, born on August 10, 1944, in Birmingham, AL, has finally danced her way into heaven, leaving behind a world that may never be quite the same without her delightful chaos. This feisty soul worked in many sectors of medical administration but wore many more hats throughout her vibrant life—most notably that of a beloved stay-at-home grandmother, though she was probably more of a "Mean Jean" in disguise to keep her grandchildren in line.
As the original gangster of Joann's quilting crew, Jean not only perfected the art of quilting but also had an impeccable knack for sewing memories into everyone’s lives. She was the quintessential Strutter Dance Team Mom, who could whip up special mementos faster than you can say “thread and needle.” Among her most legendary moments was the time she took kids shopping for adorable multi-colored ducks that mysteriously ended up being devoured by the infamous booger-bear. The children could always count on her—on good shopping days, she even got kicked out of multiple stores, landing herself a tidy ban list that would make any shoplifter envious.
Her baking skills were rivaled only by her tenacity. As the group's enforcer of the Bunco B*tches, she spoke her mind frequently and with flair, ensuring that everyone played fair—or at least paid a hefty price if they didn’t. Cakes made by Jean were nothing short of masterpieces; if cake-making was a crime, she’d be serving a life sentence in the kitchen. Those fortunate enough to sample her culinary creations swore they'd take a bullet for one more slice.
Jean embodied the spirit of fun, always ready to turn any gathering into an uproarious celebration. A strong cheerleader both literally and figuratively, she met the love of her life, Thomas Hill, during her youthful adventures that surely included more than a few questionable decisions. With lifelong friends by her side, she was never one to shy away from making a scene—good friends, bad karaoke, or spontaneous dance parties; never a dull moment since the day she graced this Earth.
From having the most memorable moments at nursing homes to indulging in her favorite treat—Sonic Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper—Jean certainly lived life on her own terms. No nursing home was safe from her antics, as she practically had a VIP pass to getting tossed out for her exuberant ways. And while other people enjoyed fair food, Jean was a connoisseur, forever on mission for the best fries and cotton candy.
Her legacy isn’t just a list of banned establishments or culinary triumphs. It includes the love and adoration of her daughter, Brooke Moore; her son, Kyle Hill; her grandchildren, Jordan Taylor, Jackson Moore, Tucker Moore, Cooper Hill, and Alyssa Hill; and her scruffy granddogs, Allie, Scrappie, and Willow. The extensive host of family and friends who remain will be reminiscing about her witty quips and infectious laughter, likely over a generous supply of fair food and, of course, a Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper—if they can get their hands on it without being banned.
Jean passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2024, but her spirit—and perhaps her mischievous antics—will continue to linger long after the last cake crumb has crumbled. May she enjoy every dance, quilt, and snappy retort in the arms of Jesus, her husband Thomas Hill, son Jayson Hill, mother Margaret Moore, brothers Jacky Moore, Gregg Moore, daughter-in-law Kristy Hill, and grandson Bradford Mark Moore. Grab your fabric, folks; it's time to celebrate the life of Mean Jean! We know Jean will love and hug on her loved ones in heaven. As they deserved everything in heaven she did with her loved ones on earth.
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10
