James Michael Richardson, affectionately known as "Mike," passed away on December 13, 2024, in Southaven, Mississippi, after a lengthy illness. Born on October 25, 1950, in Jackson, MS, Mike lived a life filled with dedication, kindness, and love.
A proud veteran, Mike served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, later continuing his service in the Reserves after his discharge. Following his military career, he devoted twenty years to being a machine operator for Humko-Witco Corporation and spent an additional two years working at H&R Block. His contributions to his community extended beyond his professional life; for two decades, he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, where his faith and commitment to guiding others shone brightly.
Mike was a man of unwavering cheerfulness and kindness, always seen with a smile that lit up the room. He had a wonderful ability to make those around him laugh and was loved by everyone who knew him. Though he often sang in church choir, he held a gentle humility about his tone-deafness, singing softly to enjoy the fellowship rather than drawing attention to himself. His patience and calmness during trials made him a steadfast anchor for his family and friends.
Memories of Mike will forever resonate with his beloved wife of 51 years, Alma Yvonne Blaylock Richardson, and their beloved children, daughter Yvette Jackson and son James Michael Richardson II. He cherished the title of father and grandfather, finding immense joy in his eight grandchildren: Kyle, Michael, Emma, Luke, Easton, Lizzie, Caleb, and Blue. His proudest accomplishments included his unwavering faith in the Lord, his daily reading of the Bible, and his ability to correct misquotes, showcasing his deep spiritual knowledge.
Outside of work and faith, Mike enjoyed a variety of hobbies and activities. He excelled in every sport he played, earning spots as an All-Star in baseball, football, basketball, and track. Known for having the highest batting average in Memphis, TN, Mike's athletic prowess was complemented by a love for fishing and hunting, which he shared with his children as he taught them essential life skills—from shooting a jump shot to changing a tire and cleaning a deer.
Those who were fortunate enough to know Mike will remember his gentle nature, his steadfast support, and his boundless love. He is survived by his brother Gary Richardson (Debbie), alongside his cherished family who will carry forward the legacy of his warmth and unwavering love.
As we reflect on the life of James Michael Richardson, we celebrate a man who exemplified kindness, faith, and an unyielding spirit. His presence will be deeply missed, but the lessons he imparted and the love he shared will forever remain in our hearts.
