Gilbert Russell “Rusty” McSpadden, III of Memphis,TN passed away on June 4,2019 after an extended illness. Rusty was born November 1, 1968 to Gilbert R. “Gibby” McSpadden, Jr. and Jane Ridens McSpadden of Memphis, TN.
Rusty graduated from Central High School, entertaining others with his ability to “act” in different dialects. He attended elementary school at Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where he was an acolyte and member of Boy Scout Troop 34. Active in the the Memphis Children’s Theatre, his love of acting was most evident when he portrayed Anna’s son in “The King and I” with Theatre Memphis in 1981. He attended the University of St. Andrews in St. Andrews, Scotland his freshman year of college, followed by graduation from the University of Memphis. Rusty was employed at Dunavant Cotton Co. in Memphis, where he met his wife Sally Chassaniol. They were married in May of 2011. At the time of an anoxic brain injury in 2012, Rusty was with Louis Dreyfus Cotton Co., Memphis.
Preceded in death by his mother Jane Ridens McSpadden. He is survived by his wife Sally Chassaniol McSpadden of Southaven, MS; father Gilbert Russell ” Gibby” McSpadden Jr. and wife Jan of Ridgeland, MS,; sister Amy McSpadden, nephew Stone McSpadden, both of Memphis; stepsons John Helms, III, wife Mary, and children Taylor, Brady, Zack, and Avery; and Will Helms and children Hannah, Hunter, and Daisy.
In lieu of flowers,the family request memorials be sent to Locus Benedictus Religious Retreat Center, P.O. Box 9791, Greenwood, MS 38930 or to Central High School Class of 1987, c/o Robbie Johnson Weinberg, 242 Cooper St., Memphis, TN 38104, to benefit the theatre program.
A memorial service is planned for a later date.
