Frederick Lewis Foshee, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 21, 2024 in Southaven, Mississippi, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness. Born on November 28, 1940, in East Tallassee, Alabama, Fred dedicated his life to service both in his community and his family.

Fred had an extensive and admirable career, retiring from Samstown Casino after 15 years as a slot technician. However, it was his passion for sports that truly defined him. For 46 years, he passionately refereed high school football across Mississippi, earning acclaim and respect in the realm of athletics. His dedication was unmatched, highlighted by the honor of winning the top Mississippi referee award twice. Fred was not just a referee; he was a father, a supportive figure who never missed a single sporting event for his children and grandchildren as long as he was able. This unwavering loyalty exemplified his commitment to family and community.

His life was one filled with joyful memories and heartwarming moments. A true character, Fred was known for his fun-loving spirit and energetic presence. He had a natural knack for trickery that endeared him to those around him. He was crafty and liked to tinker, finding joy in drawing and, of course, refereeing football. The thrill of watching Alabama football and the Dallas Cowboys brought immense joy to his life.

Fred's proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly his beloved children, Rodney Foshee (Donna) and Cindy Harris, and his wonderful grandchildren: Jeremy, Amber, Alicia, and Dallas. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Kaden, McKinley, Brock, Hunter, Aspen, and Ryder, who brought him endless joy. He often took pride in the achievements of his family, always supporting them with open arms and a loving heart.

He shared a profound love with his wife of 54 years, Peggy Ann (Curry) Foshee, who preceded him in death. Their enduring bond was beautifully celebrated when they renewed their wedding vows on their 50th anniversary, a cherished moment that stood as a testament to their love.

Fred grew up alongside his siblings — Wayne Foshee, Shelby Jean Foshee, and John Dale Foshee — and is survived by his sister, Margaret McGarr, and sister-in-law, Azalea Foshee, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will remember him for his kindness, laughter, and spirited personality.

As we reflect on Fred's life, we remember a man who was the heartbeat of his family and a respected mentor in his community. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. His wisecracks and infectious enthusiasm will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Fred Foshee may have departed from this world, but his spirit and the love he shared will forever resonate within the hearts of those who loved him.
