Evelyn Jean Bell (Thomas) McCammon, passed away November 5, 2019 at the age of 83 after a long hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born September 28, 1936, in Henning, TN, the second daughter of Willie G. Bell and Laura Marie Bell. She graduated in 1985 from Baptist School of Nursing, Memphis, TN with an RN degree after having been out of school for over 30 years. While rearing her children she was very active in the community. One summer she cared for several of the neighborhood children while also coaching her daughter’s softball team and playing on a women’s team. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother for her son’s scout troop and a leader for her daughters’ Girl Scout Troop. But she probably most enjoyed her time as a school bus driver for DeSoto County Schools. She was known as the “cool” bus driver because she kept a radio on the bus that was blaring the hits of the day on WHBQ radio. Evelyn was also very active in the Women of the Moose.
