Elizabeth Anne Carver

August 1, 1935 — October 5, 2023

Elizabeth Anne Carver died on October 5, 2023 at the age of 88. She was born on August 1, 1935 in McComb, MS. to Claude and Mildred Carlisle. As a young girl she moved to Memphis, TN where she attended South Side High School and graduated in 1953.  At the age of 52, Anne graduated from Memphis State University with her Bachelor’s Degree. Most of her professional life was spent working as the Associate Director at Bethany Home, a home for unwed mothers, in Memphis.

At age 18 Anne met and married Erman (Bub) Lowe until he passed in 1965.  Four years later she met and married the handsome Joe Billy who she shared a wonderful life with.  They celebrated 52 years of marriage before he passed in 2019.

Over the years, she traveled all over and loved entertaining their friends. From her TNT seniors group at Desoto Hills Baptist Church, her Sunday School group, to the Southaven Heritage Home and Garden Club, Anne opened her home to whoever stepped through her door for so many potlucks and fish fries. Anne, known to many as “GranAnne,” loved reading and spent much of her time on her back porch. She enjoyed card games, word puzzles, flowers, and gospel music. But most of all, she loved sports-specifically the Ole Miss Rebels. It didn’t matter if it was football, basketball, or baseball, she didn’t miss a minute of the game. Once a month, she provided lunch for the Memphis Exchange Club and many times invited her granddaughters to help serve. She also hosted cast parties for Friends of the Orpheum.

Anne is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Anne Towery of Oxford, MS and Catherine Rose Galtelli of Southaven, MS. She leaves four grandchildren, Patrick Towery of Oxford, MS, Nathan (Zoe) Towery of Brandon, MS, Meghan (Julian) Galtelli of Southaven, MS, and Jordan Galtelli of Jackson, MS. She also leaves behind Jerri Jo Center, Carol (Blake) Lindsey and their five children and four grandchildren.

Anne was a gentle woman, loved her church and her family. She was known for her sweet smile and easy manner. She will be missed by many.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at DeSoto Hills Baptist Church from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Beyond the Build fund at Desoto Hills Baptist Church (4680 Getwell Road, Southaven, MS 38672) or to the Bobby Towery Final Mile Scholarship at University of Mississippi (needs based scholarship for Future leaders of America).
