Dr. Lawrence E. Mehr, Large Animal Veterinarian, entered Heaven’s gate at 12:05p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the age of 82 years old.
Larry is predeceased by his parents Edward & Ora Fay Mehr of Bells, Tennessee. He is also predeceased by his older brother, Mendel Mehr of Nashville, TN.
Larry graduated from Bells High School, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and received his Doctorate in Veterinary medicine from Auburn University in 1967.
He began practicing in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He then moved to Longview, Texas to work for Blackwatch Farms, an investment tax shelter in angus beef cattle. He traveled to several states in the Northwest treating cattle in the feedlots.
He then moved to Pettit Jean Mountain in Arkansas to work for Winthrop Rockefeller at Winrock Farms until Mr. Rockefeller passed away. When he moved Memphis area, he established a large animal practice which lasted until his death.
He was a member of American Veterinary Medical Association & The American Association of Equine Practitioners. He loved his work with horses and their owners. He also loved watching University of Tennessee football!
He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Donna Mehr; daughter, Leigh Ann Carkeet (Geoff); two beautiful granddaughters, Kendall & Maddie; Brothers, Sam Mehr of Nashville, TN and John Mehr of Jackson, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.
