Douglas Wayne Andrews, affectionately known as Doug or Coach Doug, left this world on August 31, 2024, in Olive Branch, Mississippi, after a long and brave fight. He was born on August 14, 1946, in Los Angeles, California. Doug was not just a man of significant achievements; he was a tapestry of experiences woven together by his clever humor, determination, and unwavering commitment to his passions.
For 42 years, Doug proudly owned Snappy Windshield Repair, making history as the first to offer windshield repair services in the Mid-South area. His entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his ambition and professional prowess, forging not only a successful business but also a reputation built on excellence and integrity.
A true lover of sports, Doug's life was marked by memorable moments, from trips to the Super Bowl during a thrilling Cowboys victory, to countless weekends spent cheering on teams and mentoring young athletes. His passion for sports transcended mere fandom; he passionately coached softball, basketball, baseball, and soccer, serving as a beacon of encouragement and knowledge for those who found themselves under his guidance. The echoes of his laughter and the joy of his presence resonate in the hearts of the players he coached, and they will continue to honor his legacy every time they step onto a field or court.
Doug was a man of profound relationships. He is survived by his beloved children, Stephanie Jones, Brandy (John) Coleman, and Doug Andrews, II, who carry forward his spirit and values. The warmth of his legacy continues with his grandchildren, Jeff (Nikki) Turner, Katelyn (Jamie) Finch, Allie (Dalton) Wilson, Swayze Andrews, and Tyler Coleman, each one a testament to his love and dedication. His great-grandchildren, Abigail Turner, Ellie Turner, Fallon Roxanne Wilson, and Brody Finch, embody the joy he brought into their lives—tiny embodiments of his dreams and hopes for the future.
Doug's own mother, Constance Andrews, stands as a pillar of strength amid the pain, holding onto the memories of a son who filled her heart with pride. Also cherished in his memories are his best friends, Phil Melton and John Dinolfo, cousin, Betty Monroe, and numerous other friends, old and new, who walked alongside him through the highs and lows of life, leaving indelible marks on his journey.
Though he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sonya Roxanne Andrews, and his father, Guy Andrews, along with his siblings Guy Andrews, Jr., Gina Andrews, and Dorothy Giffin, Doug’s spirit continues to shine brightly through the love and lessons he imparted. It is through this lens of memories that we remember a man whose personality was a mosaic of comical anecdotes, driven ambition, and profound storytelling.
As we gather to honor Doug's extraordinary life, visitation will be held on September 6, 2024, from 1 PM to 2 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2 PM, and then concluding with his burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Southaven, Mississippi.
