Brenda Joyce Bowien

October 7, 1941 — February 10, 2025

Hernando, MS

Brenda Joyce Bowien, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, departed this life on February 10, 2025, in her home in Hernando, Mississippi with her granddaughter, Summer, by her side, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of love and joy. Born on October 7, 1941, in Ridgley, Tennessee, Brenda was the shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Brenda's journey began with her work as a soda jerk at Walgreen's, but it was at General Electric that she met her cherished husband, Jerry Bowien. Their love story was one of admiration and partnership, shared over decades filled with laughter and cherished memories. Brenda’s most proud accomplishments came from her family; the love she nurtured as a mother and grandmother was evident in every facet of her life.

A vibrant spirit, Brenda was known for her hard-headed determination, balanced with a heart full of care. She was thick as thieves with her sister, Elsie Bills, sharing not only a bond of sisterhood but countless adventures and memories that will forever be treasured. Brenda's passion for life shone through her love of camping, dancing, and those quiet moments spent fishing or playing games on her computer. She found joy in every gathering, surrounded by her family, where laughter and stories flowed freely.

Surviving Brenda are her beloved sons, Ronnie Bowien and Mike Bowien Sr. (Janie), along with her grandchildren—Summer George, Michael Bowien Jr., and Amanda Frazier—who brought her immense pride and joy. She was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, adding to the rich tapestry of her family's legacy. Her love and guidance will live on through them, forever influenced by the warmth she brought to their lives.

Brenda is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Bowien, and her parents, Omer and Myrtle (Dodd) Wilson. She was welcomed into eternity by her siblings—Robert "Carlton" Wilson, Alton J. Wilson, Milton "Buddy" Allen Wilson, Doris Heisey, and Imogene Patterson—those who had previously forged paths of love and kinship within their family.

Her life will be celebrated with visitations held at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, MS, on February 12 from 5 PM to 7 PM and again on February 13 from 12 PM to 1 PM, culminating in a funeral service at 1 PM followed by burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.

As we gather to honor the incredible life of Brenda Joyce Bowien, we remember her as a steadfast matriarch who embodied strength, compassion, and love. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched, a guiding light now watching over us all.
