Billy Joe Greenslade, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on October 4, 2024, in Olive Branch, MS, at the age of 87. Born on February 26, 1937, in Memphis, TN, Bill left a legacy of love and kindness that touched the lives of everyone around him.
Bill dedicated many years of his life to serving as electrician through IBEW 474 before he transitioned to FedEx, where he worked as both an electrician and mechanic. His proudest accomplishments included obtaining his journeyman electrician's license during a time when it was often a challenge, as well as cherishing his roles as a dedicated parent and grandparent. He found immense joy in retiring from FedEx, which allowed him more time to spend with his loved ones.
A man with a heart of gold and a personality that was sweet, loving, and kind, Bill was always involved with everything his children did. He demonstrated his deep love for his family through unwavering support, participating in their activities, and reminding them of their importance in his life. His commitment to family was also reflected through his love for sharing experiences—he cherished trout fishing at the White River with family and enjoyed making ice cream using a crank-style ice cream churn, creating moments of joy that will be treasured forever.
Bill was a devoted member of his church community and loved the Lord. His faith guided him, and he was always found in the church whenever the doors were open, embodying the spirit of a true believer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Betty Ivy (Denton) Greenslade; his son Randy Greenslade (Lynne); daughter Dana Greenslade; stepchildren Arlie Ivy (Cheryl) and Jana Smith (Terry); 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren who will carry his memory in their hearts.
Previously, he was united in marriage for 42 years to Shirley Ann (Sullins) Greenslade, who preceded him in death, as did his son Ronald "Mack" Greenslade and his brothers Robert and Thomas Greenslade.
Bill will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. The warmth of his spirit and the love he shared will forever brighten the lives of his family and friends.
