Anna York, born on January 31, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee, departed this world on December 27, 2024, in Hernando, Mississippi. She lived her life with a profound love for her family and friends, touching the hearts of all who knew her. Anna's radiant spirit will forever remain in the memories of those she cherished.
She was a devoted mother, beautifully nurturing her sons, Brian York (Gretchen) and Andy York (Ranee), as well as her bonus son, Chris Gandy. Anna’s love extended to her siblings, including Anthony Papageorgeon, Jr., Mary Nichols (Jerry), John Papageorgeon (Cindy), Debbie Burkhead (Jeff), and Carolyn Osborne (Kevin). Her familial bond enriched her life immeasurably, creating connections that now serve as a testament to her loving nature.
Beyond her immediate family, Anna found joy in her role as a teacher's assistant, where her heart for children flourished. The joy in her eyes as she connected with her students reflected a deep commitment to their growth and well-being. She knew how to make learning fun, cultivating an environment filled with warmth and encouragement.
Hours would slip away as she engaged in delightfully long conversations on the phone with friends and family alike. These conversations were more than just passing time; they were filled with laughter, wisdom, and the creation of cherished memories.
Anna's family tree has been greatly enriched by the presence of her beloved nieces and nephews, including Lauren Barsotti(David), Erika Papageorgeon(Michael Sullivan), Jay Nichols (Marie), Lindsay Massey (John), Justin Burkhead, Matt Burkhead (Christy), Anthony Osborne, Leo Osborne, Ashlee Talley, Andrea Kee, Jackie Trusty (Blake), Jennifer Hatcher (Jason), as well as 15 great nieces and great nephews. Also left to cherish her memory is her best friend Mary Ann Stevens. Each of them carries a piece of her legacy, ensuring that her spirit lives on through future generations.
Anna also held close the memories of those who have passed before her — her parents, Anthony Papageorgeon, Sr. and Jessica Papageorgeon, Sister-In-Law Libby Papageorgeon as well as her dear friend Sherryre Nelson. Their absence is felt deeply but serves as a reminder of the love and bonds that transcend even death.
A visitation will be held to honor the life of Anna on Monday, January 6, 2025 beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett, TN with a Mass to begin at 11:00 AM.
With an open heart and a fierce spirit, Anna York embraced life, leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue to resonate in the lives she touched. She will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will remain with her family and friends as a guiding light, inspiring them to love fiercely, just as she did.
