Anna Margaret Calvi

March 1, 1931 — August 11, 2024

Nesbit, MS

In loving memory of our Mom, Anna Calvi, the family mourns the loss of a kind, sweet and gentle woman. She passed peacefully on August 11th at the age of 93.

Mom was born March 3, 1931 in Merigold, Mississippi, the youngest of 9 siblings and half-siblings. Her mother, Lillie Hambrick died before Mom reached her second birthday and her father Alonzo Bowles, a sharecropper, passed when she was 13. She was raised by her two older half-sisters, Nora Bowles and Ardis Ingram until she completed her education at Horn Lake High School and Hinds Junior College. While at Horn Lake HS she met Lee Calvi who was 3 years her senior.

After serving in the Korean War, Lee came home and immediately looked up Anna Margaret. While he was in a foxhole in Korea he dreamed he would come home and marry her and eventually won her over. They married at St. Paul Catholic Church on February 25, 1952. They had 4 children and were married for 65 years until his passing in 2017.

Anna was predeceased by her husband Lee, her son Lee “Tony” Calvi, her parents and 8 siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Ted) Sones, Raynelle (Mike) Baltz, her son Mark Calvi, and daughter-in-law Judy Calvi.

As a grandmother, her love knew no bounds. MeMaw adored her grandchildren, Steven (Elisha) Sones , Nicole (Jeff) Roman , Shane (Alexa) Baltz , Tyler Baltz, Brett Baltz, Scott (Wendy) Calvi  and Stephanie (Robert) Hisaw. She also leaves behind 15 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Anna was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she volunteered and served as a Eucharistic minister until her health declined. Her primary job was raising her children, but after they were older, she worked in data entry/customer service at Ely & Walker and Jostens, before she retired.

The loss of our beloved Mother and MeMaw leaves a void that can never be filled, but the cherished memories and the legacy she leaves behind, will continue to inspire and uplift those who loved and knew her best.

The family will receive friends and family at Christ the King Catholic Church in Southaven on Friday, August 16, 2024. The rosary will be recited at 9:30am, Visitation from 10-11 and Mass at 11am. Burial will immediately follow at New Bethlehem Cemetery in Horn Lake, MS.

The family extends our heartfelt gratitude to Laura Phillips her caregiver and friend for over 6 years and the staff at Baptist Desoto Hospital and Desoto Healthcare, who took care of Mom the last four months of her life.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to Christ the King Catholic Church, St. Jude, or the charity of your choice.

Eternal Rest Grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the soul of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
