Alice Faye Cox

Alice Faye Cox, affectionately known as G'Ma, was a beloved figure whose warmth and spirit touched the lives of many. Born on March 7, 1950, in Cleveland, Mississippi, she grew up to embody the values of love, care, and family—traits she carried with her throughout her life. Alice departed this world on November 9, 2024, in Olive Branch, Mississippi after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and heartfelt connections.

Alice dedicated a significant part of her professional life to her career as an accountant, rolling up her sleeves to serve several companies, including The Pallet Factory, until she retired. Her education, having graduated from Delta State with a degree in Accounting, was not just a testament to her diligence but also paved the way for a career that she took great pride in.

Beyond her professional achievements, Alice found true fulfillment in her roles as a wife, mother, and friend. She was an incredible caretaker for her husband, James Cox, demonstrating a steadfast love that served as a foundation for their family. She also took great care of her son, Stephen Chrestman (Mary), whom she raised with unwavering devotion. Alice extended her nurturing spirit to others as well, becoming a second mom to Mary, Amy, and Jan, and embracing her role as grandmother to Stephen and Mary's nephew and niece, Evan and Lizzy Harrison wholeheartedly.

Alice's personality was a vibrant mix of caring, loving, and spunk. Her home was a gathering place for family and friends, where laughter was abundant, and delicious meals and snacks were prepared for all to enjoy. Among her fond memories are the countless game nights filled with joy and camaraderie, especially the thrilling games of Mexican Dominos with her family. Alice held a deep love for Ole' Miss football.

She treasured the time spent with her Ponderosa friends at the cabin on the Tennessee River and valued weekends filled with nice dinners and shared experiences. The anticipation of having her siblings and their spouses visit brought her immense joy, creating beautiful moments that she eagerly looked forward to.

Alice's family extended beyond blood—with resources and time, she embraced fill-in adult children, Amy Harrison and Janis Newberry, that brought even more love into her life. Her brothers, Maurice (Kathy), Michael (Johanna), Max (Kelli), and Marcus Maynor (Peggy), along with her sisters, Linda Carol Walsh (Bill) and Marsha Maynor (Tammy Mahler), held a special place in her heart.  Alice is also survived numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Carroll and Inez (Mathis) Maynor, who undoubtedly instilled in her the values that she passed on to her own family.

As we celebrate the life of Alice Faye Cox, we pay respect to her spirit, her laughter, and the many ways she made the world a better place through her kindness and loving nature. She will be greatly missed but will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Visitation will be held on November 14, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, Mississippi. Following the service, Alice will be laid to rest in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens at 1:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
