On Monday, February 6, 2023, John Benton Hoover, loving husband, and father of four children, passed away at the age of 92.
John was born on December 10, 1930, in Ashland, MS to Morris and Vera (Brown) Hoover.
John was a highly accomplished long-haul truck driver, receiving the prestigious Three Million Miles – No Accidents safety award during his career with Roadway Express. John loved to fish, and he enjoyed watching NASCAR. He was an avid reader of the Commercial Appeal newspaper, and he had a special place in his heart for all the neighborhood stray cats he enjoyed taking care of.
John is preceded in death by his father, Morris, his mother, Vera, his sister, Elizabeth Erickson (Don), his son, Mike Hoover, and his grandson, Zach Shuler. He is survived by his former wife, Jane Needham, his former wife and caregiver, Lynn Hoover, his two daughters, Diane Ellis (Chris) and Sandy Kuharsky, his son, Matt Hoover (Tanisha), his stepson Dwayne Caudill (Charnell), his seven grandchildren, Ben Shuler (Corrie), Michael Hoover (Tiffany), Jacob Hoover, Brooklyn Hoover, Jayden Greer, Elijah Hoover, and Braylon Hoover, and his two great grandchildren, Cassidy Shuler, and Cade Hoover.
